A Word and a Novel

The word Zadìg origins in Hebrew and means «the sage», but is also the title of a famous novel by Voltaire.
Zadìg is a young Babylonian possessing all good gifts one could wish to have: he is sage, beautiful, modest and even rich. Unfortunately his goodness isn't appreciated by his fellow citizens who, for envy and jealousy, persecute and ban him. On his odyssey throughout the world the young man survives a thousand adventures only with help of his intellect and the destiny. After he escapes death quite a few times, he is fortunate and can return to Babylonia.
